Shared experiences
Rozita Hamdan
Retired civil servant, Petaling Jaya
I had been staring at my KWSP statement for months without really understanding what the figures meant. The session with Zainudin was calm and thorough — he went through every section, stopped whenever I had a question, and by the end I had a one-page summary I could keep. A small thing, perhaps, but it made a genuine difference.
Records Reading Session — March 2025

Retired teacher, Subang Jaya
After my pension was reduced without explanation, I did not know who to contact or what to ask for. Mata Pusaka took over the correspondence entirely and explained each step before it happened. Whether the outcome matched my hopes entirely is another matter, but I always felt I was being looked after honestly.
Pension Reduction Review — February 2025
Norzahra Ibrahim
Retired nurse, Ampang
My daughter suggested I come after she read about Mata Pusaka. I was a little uncertain at first — I am not used to visiting lawyers — but Nurul put me at ease immediately. The hibah explanation was something I had been curious about for years and never had properly addressed. I will bring my sister next year.
Family Pension Plan — January 2025
Thambipillai Krishnan
Retired engineer, Cheras
I appreciated that the lawyer did not try to sell me a longer engagement after the reading session. He said my documents were in good order and that there was nothing requiring immediate attention. It is not often you hear a professional tell you that you do not need more of their services. That honesty is worth returning for.
Records Reading Session — March 2025
Azlina Yusof
Retiree, TTDI, Kuala Lumpur
We did the family pension plan together — my husband and I attended most of the sessions as a pair. The family memorandum was something I had not expected. Reading it back afterwards, it felt like something we had actually decided together rather than something a lawyer had produced. I think our children will find it useful one day.
Family Pension Plan — December 2024
Cheah Wei Ming
Retired accountant, Damansara
My pension had been suspended for nearly four months before I found Mata Pusaka through a friend's referral. The process of obtaining the recalculation from the authority took longer than any of us hoped, but Zainudin kept me informed throughout and did not raise my expectations unrealistically. The matter is now resolved.

❦ Case Summaries
How the work looks in practice
The following are illustrative summaries of the kinds of matters Mata Pusaka handles. Identifying details have been changed.
Case Summary 01
A suspended pension and an unclear letter
The Situation
A retired government employee in her late sixties received a letter reducing her monthly pension by 22%, with reference to a regulation she had not previously encountered. No recalculation was attached.
Our Approach
We requested the underlying calculation from the Pensions Division, identified a discrepancy in the service period used, and submitted a written correction request on the client's behalf.
Outcome
The pension was restored to its original amount within eleven weeks. The client received a written confirmation and a copy of all correspondence for her own records.
Case Summary 02
A family that did not agree on the plan
The Situation
A retired couple wished to arrange their EPF nominations and wills but found that their children held different expectations about the distribution. Conversations at home had not resolved the disagreement.
Our Approach
We held separate and joint sessions over eight weeks. The family memorandum became the place where the parents recorded their reasoning — which, once written, helped ease the family discussion.
Outcome
Wills, EPF nominations, and hibah arrangements were completed. All three adult children received a copy of the family memorandum at the parents' request.
Case Summary 03
A statement that had never been properly read
The Situation
A retired schoolteacher had been receiving his EPF statements for years but had never been confident in reading them. His son suggested the Records Reading Session after reading about it online.
Our Approach
The 90-minute session covered his complete EPF record, investment options held within his account, and a nomination arrangement that had not been updated since 2008.
Outcome
The client left with a clear summary and returned four months later for a full Family Pension Plan, bringing his wife with him for the initial session.
